21 April 1919

April 1919
Monday 21
Down town at 10 AM & found
at the Chess players hard at
their games. I played Frew
& Benton winning the former &
losing the latter. Top boards
played until 2 pm when the
last game, that between Kelling &
Walter Kummer being declared a
draw. This gave the Wellington
Working mens club the win the
team having 12 ½ wins to their
credit, the runners up being the
Wgtn Club with 11 ½ wins.
Players leaving by the 3 pm train
for Wellington had to finish their
games after which a few speeches
were made & Mr Jones, our Capt [Captain],
on behalf of the local men congrat
ulated the winners on their fine win.
Mr Kelling the Working Mens Capt

returning thanks for the manner
in which they had been treated.
