28 April 1916

Friday 28
Fair day. Rain indica
tions. Dug a few  potatoes be
fore breakfast. Down to
office. Busy with correspond
dence. Got some narrow
boards to attach to my For Sale
boards for purpose of nailing
on fences where I have sections
for sale. Sent Sydney down to
Homebush to put up a Sale
notice to section there.
War news state that the War
wickshires were captured
by the Turks & Germans in a
fight in Messopotamia [Mesopotamia], the
enemy being in greatly superior
numbers. Great activity by
allied aeroplanes on the Western
front. Germans advise that
they have sunk a British sub
marine in the North Sea & only
2 of the crew saved.
