Fine. Very hot.
Down to office. Up to Railway
station with Bertie to see our
boy Bern off by the 3 pm train for
Wellington College for the coming
year. After office I picked a box
of Elderberries for wine making.
After tea I bottled about
40 lbs of plums.

War news state that a Zeppelin
made an air raid on Paris &
dropped numerous bombs which
killed a number of civilians
chiefly aged men women & children.
A heavy fog prevented the Paris
defence forces & aeroplanes from
getting a view of the enemy31 Jan TOTAL

After dinner Kemble & Ruby
came up & stayed till about
9 pm. Had our tea on the lawn
to which the kitchen table was

Fine day. At office.
F Staples called at office &
paid deposit on purchase
of Mrs McLeods property.
Started Leo & Bern at the
Tennis court showing them how
to put in the posts & mark out
the distances then left them to
finish which they did whilst I
was at office. At night I bottled
plums about 40 lbs whilst
the boys with Mother & Gretta

Fine day. Down to office.
F Staples in & made offer of
£ 55 -/- 10 for Mrs McLeods pro
perty in Dixon Str [Street]. Saw Mrs
Mc [McLeod] who accepted offer then I ad
vised Staples. Arranged for
a loan of £ 100 from W K Welch to
Staples on 2nd mortgage.
Mr Spencer came up to our
place at night & brought his
violin which he plays beauty
fully. Leo played his accompan

Rain. Fine warm showers
all day. Down to office. Up to station
& met our Jack who came up from Well
ington from his holiday. Saw Mrs
Mcleod re selling the house to F
Staples who made an offer of £ 550
for same. Submitted same to owner
who advised me she would see her
solicitor, Burridge, & let me know
in the morning. E Lee in & paid
me a deposit of £ 10 on purchase
of section from Nitz Bros [brothers].

Fine day. Down to office.
Went to station & met Gretta
& Norma who came up from
Wellington where they had been stay
ing with Capt [Captain] J H Ross for a week.
Down to Mrs McLeods & got authori
ty to sell her property, then called
on F Staples who promised to look
thro [through] the place with Mrs Staples this
afternoon & let me know in the
morning if he will buy. Picked
plums & bottled about 30 lbs
& made jam of 16 lbs at night.
War news state that Russians
are giving the Turks a severe hand
ling in Turkey in Asia & the
Allied air fleets in great force are
playing havoc at the Bulgarian
German lines at Monastir &

Fine day. At office.
Saw F Staples re selling him
a town property then called on
Mrs McLeod re sale of her pro
perty in Dixon Str [Street] & she arranged
to see me tomorrow. Submitted
same to Staples. Down to Tennis
Court for a short time & saw
the finals in the Tournament.
Home early & did some gardening.
Mrs J Welch Jnr [Junior] & her sister Mrs
J Tait from Auckland spent the
evening at our place.
H Nitz in from Kaiwhata & I got
E Lee in & they signed agreement
the latter to buy the formers sec
tion at Lansdowne for £ 140.25 Jan TOTAL
