Wednesday 1
Fine day. Got ground
ready for Tomato plants before
breakfast. At office. Went
to Kemble & got a tooth attend
ed to. Had nerve drilled out
& temporary filling put in until
tomorrow. Busy at office. Mr
W McGregor in re 1262 acres
I have for sale up at the
Pohangina Valley & arranged
to call on Saturday morning &
see me re going to inspect
same.

Thursday 2
Fine day. Did some digging
before breakfast. Down to
office. Mr Easson of Welling
ton called in reference to
purchase of property on
exchange basis. Not
much doing. Had an hour
at Kemble’s surgery, having
a tooth stopped. Down to
Oval at evening & assited [assisted]
to cut & roll a wicket
for a scratch cricket
match on Saturday between
members of Carlton club.

Fine day. Before breakfast
I did some digging & sowed
Broad Beans. At office.
Mr R Tankersley called &
got cheque for £25 being
balance above Com [commission] of my brother
Will’s deposit on purchase of
the formers property. Down town
at night with Bertie whom I took
to the Town Hall to see the Physi
cal culture & Gymnastic display
of local boys & girls trained by Jarrett.
A meeting of the Wairarapa Cricket
Assoc [Association] was to have been held in
Gawith & Logans office but the Secry [Secretary]
did not turn us [up] & only Collinge, Jor
dan & myself being in waiting we
dispersed & I went back to the
Town Hall where I had left Bertie.

Saturday 4
Fine day. Did some digging
before breakfast. Down to office.
Busy with correspondence.
Afternoon our Carlton Cricket
Club opened the season with a
match Carlton ver [versus] Welch family
of whom 5 belong to the Club mem
bership. Winning the toss I sent
our Welch boys to bat Ted & Arthur
opening. Not being fully represented,
owing to several of our seniors being
away, we did not do as well as we
might have & only put up 46 runs
for 10 wkts [wickets], whilst Carlton
put up 86. Claude for our side
bowled excellently taking most
wickets & Arthur made top score
with 14 run out, myself being
second with 9

Monday 6
Fine day. Put ½ an hour
in at digging before break
fast. At office. Not much
doing. Got 2 dozen Tomato
plants at night & planted
them after tea.
Down to YMCA rooms &
played W Moore a game
of chess for Shield compe
tition & got beaten after
a good game.

Fine day. Put in about an
hour at digging before brak
fast. Down to office. Busy
with correspondence &
labour matters best part
of day. Took out a couple
of “For Sale” notices & put
them up on sections I have
for sale.
J Hayes brought a horse up
to graze in my paddock
at 2/- per week from
today
